Anxiety and Confidence in Men: What Actually Helps (and What Doesn't)
No pills, no forwarded remedies. The techniques, habits and conversations that break the anxiety cycle, and the signs that mean you should see a doctor.

How the cycle works
Performance anxiety is a loop: a worry about how things will go triggers the body's stress response, the stress response interferes with the body's natural function, and the result confirms the worry. Nothing is broken; the nervous system is doing exactly what it does under threat. Breaking the loop means changing the threat, not forcing the body.
What doesn't help
- Unregulated capsules and oils sold on social media; at best useless, at worst harmful.
- Trying harder, which adds pressure to the exact moment that needs less of it.
- Comparing yourself to films, which are fiction.
- Hiding it from your partner, which turns a solvable anxiety into a relationship silence.
What does help
- 1Tell your partner. One honest sentence ("I get anxious and it gets in the way") removes most of the threat.
- 2Take the goal off the table for two weeks: closeness, touch and time together with an explicit agreement that nothing has to happen.
- 3Slow breathing (four seconds in, six out) for two minutes before and during; it directly calms the stress response.
- 4Fix the basics: sleep, alcohol, smoking, exercise. They affect the body more than any product.
- 5Shift attention from monitoring yourself to sensing the moment; mindfulness practice trains this.
When to see a doctor
If difficulties happen consistently even when relaxed, come with pain, or began alongside a new medication or health change, book a urologist or another qualified doctor. Diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid and some medicines are common, treatable causes. A visit is a sign of taking yourself seriously, not of failure.
